Chronology of cameras Breton

The jumelle-type camera La Gauloise is entirely made of metal. As the advertisement highlights its lightness, it is possible that it is made of aluminum.

It is available in several formats: 6.5 x 9, 9 x 12, and 8 x 16, with the latter format designed for a stereoscopic jumelle-type.

(Photo-Revue 1899):

This model of jumelle-type camera differs essentially from existing cameras, mainly in terms of the retractable system, which is constituted by a movable bottom moving longitudinally. This system allows a very noticeable reduction in the volume of the camera, has the advantage of never leaving the plate unattended, and eliminates all risks of accidents or failures.

La Gauloise's magazine holds 12 glass plates or 24 free films (vitros, etc.). The lens can be an extra-fast iris aplanat or an anastigmat from brands such as Zeiss, Berthiot, Cooke, Darlot, Derogy, Hermagis, etc.

The shutter is located at the rear of the lens; it provides, at will, either long exposure or variable-speed instant shots from one second to 1/120 of a second. Automatic focusing for short distances is done by means of two side buttons that control the movement of the front part of the camera.

Two viewfinders, one direct and the other reflecting, provide the ability to aim at eye level or by holding the camera against the chest; the sighting system is complemented by two spirit levels.

Finally, two nuts can be used to attach the camera to a stand for stable operations. La Gauloise thus meets all requirements while achieving undeniable advantages in terms of lightness, convenience, and safety in operation; it is likely to take an honorable place among the most rightly renowned brands.
